Hi everyone! My name is Nikki Jo, but most people call me JoJo for short. I live in Rome, New York. I currently work at Taberg Residential Center for Girls, which is a juvenile detention center. I also coach a 5th grade girls’ basketball team, which we are undefeated and have playoffs in a few weeks. Then I start coaching a traveling AAU basketball team. If I was going to write a book about myself I would name it “Life On and Off the Court.” I had Dr. Hsu for other courses so she heard my joke, but I still laugh every time I say it: “A kindergarten teacher handed out a coloring page to her class. On it was a picture of a duck holding an umbrella. The teacher told her class to color the duck in yellow and the umbrella green, however, Bobby, the class rebel, colored the duck in a bright fire truck red. After seeing this, the teacher asked him: "Bobby, how many times have you see a red duck?" Young Bobby replied with "The same number of times I've seen a duck holding an umbrella.” I am not currently teaching or certified yet, but almost there. :) If I had to describe what “New literacies,” are…I would say “New Literacies” are new techniques of teaching that are made possible by different digital media and technologies. If I had any concerns about this course it would be just being able to stay on top of the work load.
